My display is died blood-red!?!
Um, slight problem...
A few days ago I picked up a trojan from somewhere (CTPMON.Win32.x Trojan) that has been giving me weird popups and random crashes every now and then. I'd been planning on installing the new retail version of Vista Ultimate when I could afford it (in a few weeks), but seeing as I kinda need it now that I'm too cheap to buy an anti-virus (I hate them anyway) I'm going to get Vista sometime this weekend. So, the problem: My comp had been on for a few hours while I was gone (folding, of course), and I came back and tried to use it, only to find that the keyboard had gone dead (no lights, no response), the screen had been dyed a nasty shade of blood red. The thing was entirely non-responsive, so I rebooted it. It works fine now, but it's still blood red... occasionally flashing bright purple for a few seconds, tho. I don't know if it's my drivers, my display (Mom's MAG 700P 17" LCD for the time being), or my graphics card... Can you guys tell me if this is normal colored or if it's red or purple? I can't really tell from the screenshots, 'cause my screen is the wrong colors... This one is red? ![]() This one is purple? ![]() Here's some actual pictures of it that I took... you can see the red in these... ![]() ![]() I'm gonna go download the newest drivers from nVidia... I'll see if that helps... Other than that and reformatting (will do when I get the new Vista), I can't really think of anything to do to fix this... Any ideas, anyone? I'll let you know how the driver reinstallation works out... I just wanted to post this up so you guys could see what happens when my comp goes crazy ![]() I hope you guys enjoyed this... lemme know if you can help ![]() TIA

Meh, problem solved!
GPU was shorting out or something... a fan had fallen on top of the graphics card and messed something up... as soon as I bumped the case with my foot (case is under the desk serving as a foot rest now... no room on desk to display it), the fan fell off and it went back to normal. I can see from my screenshots that it didn't show up red like that... it's kinda creepy... Anyway, it's all good now...

i think there is a problem in your graphic card. You should check that with some other computer or you should use your computer without that for some time. If it solves your problem , then go and get a new graphics card or it may be due to the position of your speakers.

Oh, you know why the screenshots weren't red or purple? It's because the computer isn't producing a red or purple tint to your image. The colour is being added after the image processing has been done and only that extra colour gets sent out to the monitor, not to the mobo for the screen shot.
Same thing happens if you're monitor cable connection is loose to your graphics card. The screen flashes wired colours, but your GFX or mobo won't detect the wierd colours because the problem is happening after the image processing. That was just in case any of you have this problem in the future lol!! Mike |

Yea, I figured it out. My guess is that the B&G output lines (as opposed to RBG) were crossed and shorted, leaving the red to go to the display.
Old thread, yes, but thanks for the input
