Me of course, but since the points were so small, I watched it melt on just enough to stick and then hot glued the connection so I wouldn't risk damaging anything. I guess I'll tin the wire a little heavier next time and make sure the connection is good and solid. Just gotta make sure I have no bleeding on the sides, don't want to short anything

Ok, update!
Got the mod back together and it's solid now, but since the contact points are so fragile, I have to be careful. Also, the voltage regulators are ALL burning up! Jesus! So I have to do some more work on cooling the regulators before I go higher. I've also got a ~0.10v droop going on under load, which can partially be attributed to the raging heat coming from the regulators and sensor chip. Man I've never seen a card get so hot! Even the PCB in some spots is too hot to hold I got 7801 though! 670/651 on 1.75v (1.65v under load) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=2008172 I've dropped it back down to 650/650 right now, and 1.65v. |

I've got a new CPU now so this should help a little too
I had a plan on how to get the vmem done but it didn't work out. I was going to put a 10k VR inline with a 10k normal resistor to achieve 20k for the mod, but for some reason it takes too long to load the voltage through the two resistors. It's about a 1/2 second lag time, which I wasn't anticipating. I thought about using it anyway, but the rest of the card initializes too quickly, so I don't feel safe loading up the card while the memory waits for voltage. On top of that, what does the sensor chip do if the voltage value is zero? Too many questions, so that was a no-go. Anyone have some 20k variable resistors? I need two. Radio shack is too f*&%$#%# stupid to carry them |

I'm just tweaking the CPU to a daily overclock speed. I think I've found it, since prime is still going strong now after a couple of hours at 2900. The real tweaks will be the drivers and the card itself.
Now that I've got one less core to deal with, the CPU is much cooler and so is the air the fans blow out into the case (only 100 watts now, man). I bought two rheostats that I'm going to hook the fans to so I can manually crank them when benching and then drop them back down after I'm done |
