Building a new rig for the first time in 3 years

Building a new rig for the first time in 3 years, just thought I'd share. It's going to be my new entertainment center, video editing and surveillance machine. Specs in the sig. Should have everything put together and running sometime this Saturday. Then I get to test some blu ray movies for the first time Don't know why I didn't just buy a blu ray reader cause I don't see myself burning any blu ray at the price it costs per disk but it's nice to have the option to write when prices do drop.

Thanks, as I don't play games, this is going to be perfect. I've heard great reviews with the 780G chipset thus I opted for this motherboard. All the parts finally arrived today, hopefully I'll be able to get it up and running Sat.

Well, I finally got it put together and have like 4 monitors hooked up to it. Works like a charm. Never used anything so fast in my life It installed Vista in like 6-8 minutes. There are a few problems though. Vista only see's like 2.4GB of my 6GB and for some reason, only some blu ray discs play in PowerDVD 7.3. I'll post some pics as soon as I get home from my vacation. Oh and my brand new Thermaltake PS blew up after 20 minutes, got myself a 400W Ultra PS as a replacement. Going to remove all the sleeving and sata connectors and put it on my Ultra PS instead.

Are you using the Vista 64bit? Cause 32bit will only show about that much RAM. Just curious but what Ultra power supply did you get?

I believe it's a 550W Ultra (all black)... can't remember and don't feel like opening up the case But I've upgraded to an OCZ 520 12U 520W PS with modular sleeved connectors. It's a nice PS with 2 large quiet LED fans and has a mirror finish. I'm using Vista 32bit and I'm only registering 2557MB + 512MB shared video. That's still under the 3.5GB that most people can get and the 4GB that Vista should support. I've tried all the online tricks to get the memory up but they don't seem to work.

As for the Blu Ray playback problem, I've got that fixed since PowerDVD came out with an update (v7.3). I've yet to burn a Blu Ray disc though.
