Curb emotional eating!
Scientists have come up with a pacemaker for the stomach that uses electrical impulses to curb hunger pangs. While most of us don't need such a drastic solution, there are ways you can curb those times when you eat out of stress or boredom or for comfort.
Use your journal to help identify what triggers you to eat when you're not hungry. Does it happen in a social setting? Or when you're feeling anxious or sad, or having negative thoughts? Is it sometimes simply because the food is there? Or is it because you're skipping meals and have a headache? Next, look for another way to deal with each trigger. For example, take a walk to think through a problem. Schedule social time at places where food isn't the focus. Avoid opportunities to "graze." Eat meals on time instead of when you're starving. Experts say 75 percent of overeating is emotional, so once you get a grip on your patterns, success is sure to follow! You can do it!
