How do you set up a phase change system?
So.....SenC, how would I go about setting up a phase change system? what specific parts would I need?

i can probably answer this as well.
a mach 1 usually costs around 500.00 or so. they will get things about -45 at the part which will be pressed against the cpu its a compressor driven unit that uses a gas to cool it and this is probably a good place to start here. http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/forum...pic.php?t=1121 |

Sharkbite,
The part you have is the condenser. In a phase change system you need (basic): 1 compressor 2 Condensor 3 Expansion Valve 4 Evaporator 5 Gas (usually Forane of some sort - you can also use Propane) The compressor compresses the gas into the condensor (generating heat), Then the gas passes through the expansion valve into the evaporator(generating Cold) ...then repeat in an endless cycle. Freon is the registered trademark for several different chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs - trademarked by Dupont but the true chemical group name is Forane Forane/Freon is just propane with the outer carbons chemically replaced with Fluorine; which makes it some what less flamable but more toxic when it burns. |

is it because the processor's heat acts as the evaporator? I would guess that you wold get maximum cooling because the forane would pull all the heat out of the processor when evaporating.... So let me see if i have this right. The compressor takes the gas and compresses it so that the pressure creates a liquid, then the liquid flows through the tubes to the processor, the heat draws to it, evaporating it and then the gas goes to the radiator and it cools down into a liquid, then back... ok, now i'm screwed up This stuff is way beyond me lol
i think i will have to do a bit of research for a while.....

You had it mostly right I think. Except the forane evaporates from the pressure differences on each side of the expansion valve (in an AC system, it's the orifice tube), not from the heat of the CPU. And the radiator isn't where it turns back into a liquid; that's what the compressor does. The radiator just dumps excess heat drawn off the CPU into the air away from the CPU.
Howstuffworks link In their diagram, the cpu block would be directly after Point A.

I think you should not go for that. You should have an air cooling system. It is cheap and easy to use.It will also increase the efficiency of the your computer. As far as phase change system is concerned , it will be with the cooling device. Don't take tension about that. But if you want to make your own , then the above suggestions will definitely help you
